Hoodlums
The Eko Bridge section of Obalaende, Lagos was thrown into chaos on Thursday when hoodlums took over the place, vandalizing government property and attacking passersby.
The hoodlums, most of whom were street hawkers who trade inside traffic, stormed the road to protest government’s order that they should quit the road.
On Wednesday, the Lagos State Government stiffened the enforcement of its environmental laws as officers of the State Kick Against Indiscipline, KAI were deployed in major roads to arrest street traders and urchins. The State Traffic Management Authority was not left out as it directed its officers to go after any erring motorists in the state.
The enforcement of the traffic laws became more feasible, following the inauguration of a new Commissioner for Transport and of course his invitation to the State House of Assembly to find solution to the perennial traffic in the metropolis.
On Friday, the hoodlums took laws into their hands as they vandalized two LAGBUS vehicles, belonging to the state government and dislodged passengers in the bus. The irate mobs moved in hundreds and caused heavy traffic on the highways. They held sticks, stones and various kinds of dangerous weapons, wreaking havocs on Lagos.
